About Teresa

Hi my name is Teresa,

Just to tell you a little bit about myself and how I became a counsellor.I started my professional career not as a counsellor but as a nurse. I left Ireland when I was 18yrs to go toLondon to study to be a nurse. . However  as much as I enjoyed nursing and all aspects of health education I felt more drawn toward people’s psychological problems than their physical problems. When nursing in London I worked as a volunteer doing telephone counselling. As a consequence I became inevitably involved n the world of psychotherapy and counselling.

As time went by I emergrated to Perth in Western Australia and I began to realise that my focus had totally shifted to counselling, which led me to study for, and complete a Baclelor degree in counselling. I later trained to work with couples and families.

Ongoing Education:
As a professional counsellor it is a requirement to keep updated with continuous education and professional development. I regularly attend workshops and seminars to keep updated on any new developments that may enhance my skills and knowledge so that I can deliver to my clients the best that I can offer.

Professional counsellors/ psychotherapist and psychologists are to require to maintain ongoing supervision in their practice. What that means is that when a counsellor is working professionally with people and with some cases the counsellor would like a second opinion, or feel stuck the counsellor will discuss her clients situation with a supervisor and together they may add some valuable insight to solving the problem.     (Client identity remaining anonymous) this provides the opportunity for the counsellor give the very best and safest therapy for their clients.

I have had the privilege of attending supervision and participating in workshops with Murico Aldofi  a world Master in couple and family therapy where I have gain invaluable skills and knowledge in couple and family therapy.
